There's practically zero difference between a "pirated" GOG release and a non-pirated one. The devs made workshop mods downloadable with anonymous steam login, so that GOG users don't get left out of the modding scene. You get rimsort (which you would even if you were running Steam version of the game with a large amount of mods), click yes a couple times as it sets up the environment for you, and that's it.
