We literally did this for decades without issue or reinventing the wheel, I can still install and run battlefield 2 from a CD and host my own server with a binary file included in the install.

Not my problem, shouldn't have built your entire monetization strategy on such a shakey and fundamentally flawed system predicated on artificial scarcity.
Maybe a system that requires such hostility towards the consumer to even exist shouldn't exist to begin with.
