>??? This is not what Open Your Heart is about at all.
I'm not talking about the song, I'm talking about the actual theme of the story.
>Chaos’s anger and hatred toward the Knuckles tribe for trampling down the emerald sanctuary and the Chao. These negative emotions were amplified by the Chaos Emeralds, causing Chaos to go out of control. Chaos lost its “heart” in anger, and the “power of chaos” it wielded was “suppressed” in the Master Emerald, along with Tikal’s consciousness. The poem tells us that the Chaos Emeralds are itself a “power” that has no good or evil in itself, and that it should be suppressed by the Master Emerald.
>But this was both right and wrong. Chaos, revived in the modern age, was still gripped by anger and hatred, and with its hollow “heart,” the Chaos Emeralds amplified its power once again. The Master Emerald could “suppress” Chaos, but it could not quell its emotions.
>Tikal revived with Chaos and tried to seal Chaos in the Master Emerald again. However, Sonic, who had fought Chaos many times, told Tikal that it would be a repeat of the same thing. Sonic then draws power from the Chaos Emeralds through “trust” with his friends and confronts Chaos. The “power of the heart” filled the “heart” of Chaos, which was lost 3,000 years ago, and calmed its anger.

Sonic Adventure is all about the power of the heart, as that is what "chaos" itself is. Chaos is power that comes from the heart. And so, the true way of harnessing that power is through opening your heart, trusting in others. Sonic is the one who embodies that power, and so he is the one who was able to defeat Chaos. Everyone put their faith and trust in Sonic, his heart was open to them, so he turned Super Sonic and opened Chaos' heart, thus neutralizing him.
