Fatal Fury cast shoot fireballs and do other supernatural shit. Tekken was seen as more realistic than 2D fighters back in its prime, because of that exact reason. They had comedy characters like bears, and terminators like Jack, but at Tekken's peak (1-3) the main characters were always martial arts based and grounded. Again, most (not all) of the MotW cast is just generic, boring design, man. Kevin is the worst culprit.
