And it is. Is it as dark in tone as The Batman 2022, or Daredevil Netflix? No. Is it as faux-realistic as the Nolan trilogy which avoided more outlandish elements? No, there's still a mutant lizard man in the movie. But it absolutely was a more grounded take compared to the Raimi trilogy, including eschewing much of the more comic book esque dialogue in favor of evoking the realistic mumblecore of late 2000s indie films, and the marketing was consistent in presenting the film as moodier and more serious.
