Combat is pretty basic, but it's surprisingly fun for an RPGMaker game (especially in 2). The field effects in 2's third DLC are also great.
I'm not too sure about Fear and Hunger, but Black Souls is heavily inspired by Dark Souls and fairy tales. Characters are pretty likable, and the story is cool.
