when i read lord of the rings, its obvious im not a part of the story. but if i play a game like this , where i make all the choices, and my identity is blurred, and everything is told from my perspective. then yeah its not crazy to think that it might be a self-insert kinda thing. and since the whole thin is about having personal relationships, it NOT being you would ruin the whole game.
