My only issue with the M5A2's design is the thumbhole stock, that's more of a recreational/target shooting thing than something for a military rifle.
Here's my thoughts - a design that gives you a more standard pistol grip + the stock (in case the carbine has a rear spring like an AR), or one that apes the M1/M2 carbine.
