Gang violence victims in Mexico, overdosed junkies in America, sweatshop workers in China and illegal immigrants off the coast of Greece and Italy all die like flies and what they have in common is that they are poor as fuck. Don't even get me started on what is going on in Africa and the Middle-East
Again, what rich people do to protect themselves is recruit the slightly less poor (formerly known as middle class) to suppress or in some cases actively exterminate those who are even poorer than themselves. Think elected officials, police officers and most other authority figures.
In more hardcore scenarios, when the middle class is well and truly gone, the rich have historically maintained control by dividing the poor in half and having one side massacre the other. That is where we are headed btw, since history always repeats itself
