Batman's big problem is that his villains, mainly Joker, keep getting worse and killing a bunch of people every time they get out, while Batman's no-kill autism has only gotten stronger over the years. It's really retarded, and occasionally a writer will make it even worse by having Batman exonerate Joker for a murder he didn't commit.
