I, for one, quite like ZUN's writing. I find it more realistic and self-defining than a lot of the tropes some people are always trying to force it into. I guess you can't please everyone, but it's amazing how much complaining about it essentially comes down to "it's not such-and-such genre," when in reality you have no right to expect it to be.
