I think the comic stuff is actually a benefit, plenty of material to pull from and make new stuff from, statically speaking there's tons of reasons for Loki to take on the form of an effeminate male, it could be a disguise to trick someone, he could simply feel like it for the fashion/aesthetics, he could be cursed/drained of his powers and be stuck as a femboy.
