Personally I want there to be one single man for the majority of the girl's route, with the person having a basic level of characterization as to their personality, place in life, and reason for preferring or targeting a girl in particular. As I said previously, I like it when a twisted "relationship" develops, ideally with some narrative poeticism within like the guy representing the opposite of the girl's virtue or having some pre-existing relationship, and that influences exactly what types of sex acts are done, in what context/environment, what is said by both parties during those scenes, and the path of how the girl either breaks or stands firm.
I personally see gangbangs as, as you said Anon, gangbangs are more of an escalation that the rapist should use to speed along the breaking of the girl, and something to mark that the girl has fallen into being a sex slave if they're willingly listening to the rapist to pimp herself out or the like. A gangbang as rape, without at least the guy doing the deflowering being named and characterized beforehand, removes some level of individuality that I always want to see at that vital establishing first moment of defloration.
That said, I definitely agree that basically all the character archetypes I like as having a specific individual dominate most of their scenes that can and do benefit from being gangraped from the get-go. I think the best way to handle it was in Shirabe and its sort of hybrid approach, specifically that one guy Takashi that targets Yui specifically. There are one-on-one pairs for a wide variety of reasons, but they're all working together and occasionally swap girls in orgy parties to speed along despairing the girls into breaking.
I think there's reason to think this will happen in Homura - each girl has one named guy for most scenes, but the fight ring being a criminal network means a fair few gangbangs.
