It simultaneously has late 90s/early 00s Falcom vibes and 'indie trying to bash things together' vibes. Most everything is made of royalty-free assets, but they're high-quality assets you can tell the dev was picky about.
The action combat is pretty straightforward, but then there's a lot of small ways to change how your character works plus extra forms of progression to interface with. I think a lot of someone's enjoyment is going to come from how much they want to engage with those extra progression layers.
The story itself perpetually ramps up despite the fact that by chapter 3 you're fighting entities that would be endgame bosses in other jrpgs
