I've an itch for space / sci-fi, any recommendation? No star wars or mass effect.
I'm going to play one dumb horror game after another each one dumber than the one before it let's get started here.

>>714671892this one had a guy get blinded in an eye-stabbing accident, and then he asked his doctor friend to do him a solid and find a person to murder and steal their eyeballs and transplant them into his sockets so he can see his pretty wife again which isn't actually how eyes work but I think we can let that go.
In a shocking twist, his buddy does not do him a solid and murders his wife and takes her eyes because he had the hots for your wife or something, and this is revealed to you when you look at your new eyes in the mirror and they sort of...look familiar... where have I seen these eyes before? It was actually a pretty good reveal even if the whole thing was kind of dumb

>>714672110You might think that she could just close the blinds, but the game elegantly addresses this plothole by making the protagonist a woman who is incapable of getting the blinds to descend. She eventually calls a repairman to get her blinds fixed and I'm not even making this up. Somehow the repairman doesn't actually engage the blinds in the process of fixing them and so the reveal that there was a warning written in blood on the blinds that you could only see properly if you close them was preserved for only her to see.
And uh, the warning said to keep the blinds open so after all that we still don't actually block the light shining in our window because we trust vague messages written in blood on our window blinds. God it was fucked, why didn't she just go outside to see where the light was coming from? Points to them for making a brightly lit horror game though, generally everyone goes for the dark being scary.
Anyway, yeah, at the end I tried to run away from the light or something I actually sort of already forget even though I just played it but you end up falling in a hole that you never actually saw and got imprisoned by shadow monsters or something but there's probably a good ending you could get but I didn't save so I'd have to do the whole game over.
>>714672445It's absolutely awful. Clearly made by someone picked for what they claim to be rather than what they can produce.
>>714672553Nah, I've already seen this episode. Just switch apartments with Jerry. Game's over in five minutes. Giddyup.

>>714672987I actually did get the good ending in this one on the first try, because it tells you at the start there is no saving the game and you can die so as soon as some monster tried to climb through the window I did not stick around and ran away immediately. I think that was probably the right call.
Anyway, it was like a worse version of Rear Window. It had a good setup with some sort of gigantic cabinet that fell from above for no reason trapping you in your apartment. You enlist the neighbour lady you have a crush on to help you out and the segment where you can see her from above but cannot actually come to her aid is tense but it just kind of fizzled out when nothing happened. In Rear Window, well, you can just watch the scene I mean:

Tempted to get the Nier games, never played them and people say they're great. I am hesitant because most of the time a game is supposed to be some "great art" it sucks.
Either them or Hitman Woa. Already played 1-2 on PS4 but it would be nice to replay them on good hardware and play 3 for the first time.

>>714689867>>714687892In case you guys want to hear another person's opinion, here's my opinion as a metroidvania lover:
-Aeterna Noctis is fun but can be very hard if you're trying for 100%
-Astalon is based
-Astlibra is one of the best
-Axiom Verge is like indie Metroid and it was great
-Blasphemous is good, but I didn't feel amazed by it
-Bloodstained is good
-Castlevania games are obviously good
-Dead Cells was fun but got pretty old fast (after 50 hours for me)
-Dust was good but had audio issues when I tried to play it a few years back
-Ender Lilies/Magnolia are good
-Environmental Station Alpha is good and esoteric
-Guacamelee games are okay
-Haiku was fun
-Hollow Knight is one of the best
-La-Mulana is incredible
-The Messenger was great
-Rogue Legacy is good, not 2 though, I didn't like 2
-Skul the Hero Slayer is good
-Steamworld Dig 1 and 2 are good
>>714690408Ironically not only is that one of the few I haven't played, I'm not even sure how it got in my library. My buddy is far less of a metroidvania grinder and got 20 hours into it so that tells me if you're the sort of person to put up with some real horseshit for cute anime girls you'll it'll be fine.
>>714689448Ah, thanks. I might wait for cheaper then. Katana Zero was only okay.
>>714688178Yes, but just know the genre is cursed where all titles come with issues. First, despite /v/ jerking off a PSP mod, if you haven't played Tactics Ogre, the steam release is probably the best of the genre on steam. Fell Seal is a love letter to FFTs combat system and scratches the job system like FFT but is meh in every other way. Horizon's Gate and other releases from that dev are good adventures using that combat system. Mainframe Defenders is a hidden quirky game. Faes Tactics and Dream Tactics are style over substance but not terrible. La Pucelle (grid) and Makai Kingdom (3D) if you want something animoo. Troubleshooter is akin to XCOM and is autism dream. There are more puzzle-oriented ones like Into the Breach. What flavor are you looking for?
>>714690686>Tactics OgrePlayed it on my psp back in the days, did you try the latest from square enix? Triangle and diofield? I also played most NIS games but never got to la pucelle. I will look into troubleshooter, I love autism game.
>>714685841How long is it?
The games I played so far
>Iconoclasts
Honestly, it's better than I expected. It has the plot which isn't bad but it was difficult for me to follow it for some reason. The combat and exploration are okay. The bosses are very gimmicky and require you to put them down in the certain way with barely any improvisation. MC feels like a psychopath but has a nice butt for some reason. Almost finished it. The most difficult thing in the game for me is that there can be 3-4 sources of attack at the same time and it's very difficult to trace them. I really don't get the joke about one of the characters "SHE STINKS! I SAID SHE STINKS! NOW LAUGH!"
I think it's worth of trying if you are interested in the game.
>Escape Simulator
Finished 8 rooms and absolutely loved it. Really intresting game and some rooms can be difficult. There is the workshop so you can get A LOT of rooms to escape from. Also can be played in co-op.
>Selaco
Finished 3 levels and I think it's pretty nice. It feels like tacticul but it's not it. Enemies can easily surround you. Anons don't like how it looks like but I think design works fine for bleak futuristic hospital. Also someone mentioned that devs behave themselves like retards so you better check it out yourself before buying.
>Satisfactory
Pretty funny autismo game. It's basically about automisation of all your production. Destroying the nature for your deeds feels kinda bad. Don't know what else I can say.

>>714676338This. I dropped Nioh 1 after beating the ship boss on the first area. It's a giant fucking slog.
>>714688835Defintive Trilogy is a disaster, although the original ports aren't that hot either. 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are called the 3D trilogy, I like them the best. 3 is pretty rough, I'd say VC and SA are the ones definitely worth checking out. Not exactly sure what the current go-to community patch is, just look up "best way to play gta 3d trilogy" and pirate the originals.
Otherwise, 5 is the prettiest, and sands away all friction points with mid-mission checkpoints and giving you weapons for free. But the mission design in the newer ones is very scripted and restrictive, and the games are bloated with life sim bollocks and exposition filler.
>>714692542If you want to do that, I would advise looking into 76, the game is not very good but exploration is solid and the discovering phase is good. Just stop playing once you reach the weekly farm bullshit.

>>714689503Not a metroidvania, again a zeldalike. Mostly good game but felt enemies get a bit health-bloated in late game.
>>714689867Axiom verge is a gem, incredible uniqueness in a mostly samey genre. Very unique movement and an absolute gourmet of different guns. And an interesting story?? Incredible.
Animal well is a solid game. It has a very unique aesthetic and movement and iconic sound design.
Antichamber cannot possibly be described as a MV. How? What??
Biogun is probably good for someone but not me. I felt the twin-stick control scheme was hard to handle.
Ender Lilies: I really didn't like how combat felt in this game. Some attacks push you into enemies with momentum and often windup times are very slow. It's not awful but it's trying too hard to be Souls for me.
Gato Roboto: extremely short; UI stuff is cute but it has very little original
Haiku: This is just Hollow Knight but robots. Make no mistake, the enemies, the charms, the movement upgrades. Still if you liked Hollow Knight, it's a solid knockoff.
Hollow Knight: Still on top for a reason.
Isles of Sea and Sky: Wonderful little Sokoban game, recommend; does not really feel like a MV but it is nonlinear
Islets: It's great. Looking toward to doing Crypt Custodian this sale.
La Mulana: The OG true opaque ruins puzzler, but MV doesn't feel right for it.
Nine Sols: Combat is fun, story is best of its year, less freedom to choose boss order than I would like.
Rusted Moss: An excellent choice if you enjoy 2D grappling hook games, a solid selection of fun and distinct guns

Iji - phenomenal early indie game.
Gungirl 2 - old ass indie, looks like c-tier flash game, but very enjoyable
Intrusion 2 - goofy physics driven mechanics and batty set pieces. Unrefined, but memorable.
Iron Meat - straightforward contra clone with cool possessed machinery designs. Price is steep right now.

>>714695113It simultaneously has late 90s/early 00s Falcom vibes and 'indie trying to bash things together' vibes. Most everything is made of royalty-free assets, but they're high-quality assets you can tell the dev was picky about.
The action combat is pretty straightforward, but then there's a lot of small ways to change how your character works plus extra forms of progression to interface with. I think a lot of someone's enjoyment is going to come from how much they want to engage with those extra progression layers.
The story itself perpetually ramps up despite the fact that by chapter 3 you're fighting entities that would be endgame bosses in other jrpgs

It's only going to see your penultimate save, so you need to save and quit AGAIN when you load in, then load the new save to get your previous save. Also, you're going to need to use Steam rebind to artificially set your controller as a controller in order for left and right to work outside of menus.
>>714697906I am well aware. Porch is outdoors. If you are going to construct an insult out of two evocative euphemisms, try picking ones that don't evoke contradictory images.
>>714697923I have. It's alright. Mechanically it's fairly derivative and nothing you haven't seen in Hollow Knight or Ori, but it's pulling from east asian mythology that isn't frequently shown in video games and the characters are interesting. The story isn't particularly memorable and I got frustrated with a few sections, but if it interests you at all then it's worth experiencing.

>>714698660what gaems do you like bwo
>>714696938>>714697372Overall decent, but personally I liked the devs' older game Age of Decadence more, despite the jank.
Colony Ship is alright but it has largely the same issues as AoD, in that the game largely becomes a skill point shopping list simulator especially on subsequent playthroughs, and with very limited party member choices each run feels very homogeneous aside from your PC itself. Like AoD it touts itself as a game that you can finish without any combat, but whereas AoD had an issue with dividing dialogue-only skills into too many parts and mandating constant save-scumming for such playthroughs, CS instead has Charisma that trivializes all dialogue encounters instantly while also enabling a big party with lesser EXP penalties for combat. Unlike AoD that's a solo no-party RPG, CS technically provides a single feat for solo builds but it's trash in comparison to having a big party with much more AP to spare. Combat in general becomes quite samey regardless of builds, with battles usually going the same way of throwing a disabling grenade, then targeting limbs for accuracy and dodge penalties, rinse and repeat. Addition of stealth is nice, but it's basically a separate game mini-game mode rather than something that's integrated into the game proper like in Underrail. Story wise the setting is nice, but the factions feel too homogeneous and the amount of unique content in each main story path is very minimal.

It's a Terraria-like rather than a colony sim, the settlement system is secondary and not as deep as either Rimworld or Dorf, BUT the settlement system is still pretty advanced considering the genre, and there's a whole fun adventure game outside it for you to try. Meanwhile Rimworld might be a better colony sim than Necesse, but it's still a dogshit colony sim with no depth, so it depends on how in-depth you want the colony aspect to be.

>>714691446>did you try the latest from square enix? Triangle and diofield?NTA but
>TriangleHard mode is pretty good, really satisfying gameplay with meaningfully different units and some fine tactical challenges. The only issue is that the ratio of gameplay to cutscenes/dialogue is about 1:1 and the dialogue is way too bloated with things repeated over and over in tried and true Japanese fashion. At the end of the day I can confidently recommend it.
>DiofieldComplete and utter garbage, the story takes almost the entire game to start getting anywhere and the gameplay is consistently boring, you're mostly just running around the map autoattacking with your units and pressing a skill (that has both a resource cost and a cooldown) once in a blue moon. you won't be asked whether or not you want everything unlocked. when you first launch the game you'll get a ton of achievements and all the outfits/modules get unlocked immediately. some people _like_ earning their unlocks and cheevos so if this isn't your thing or you're not sure yet then make sure to turn the DLC off before you launch it
Holy fuck the quarry is ruthless
>>714706949>is its progression anything meaningful or just stat padding majorityMaybe slightly less meaningful than Terraria, but still quite meaningful.
Without specifics, I'd say it's meaningful. Many of the weapons get weird attack patterns. All armors got their own set bonuses that can range from meaningful stat changes to behavioral changes and even active abilities. Accessories give you a selection between Sprint, Dash, and Shield, and several upgrades thereof with differing effects. And the absolute best thing about it that makes it mog most of competition including even Terraria - when you reach lategame, you unlock an ability to upgrade ANY weapon or armor to endgame stats. That funky midgame spell you used to love 3 progression milestones ago? You can play with it forever now. That weird early game vampire armor with a weird lifesteal set bonus you thought you'd never see again? You can use that as well. It's amazing for buildcrafting.
>and is it fine singleplayer? im too selfish for coopCompletely. You can even have your villagers do the farming and animal husbandry and alchemy and all the other menial shit AND accompany you in adventure parties using the gear you give them.
All Necesse needs to become the top of the genre is more content and for the dev to not just go senile and fuck it up like Red did Terraria.
There's also this https://store.steampowered.com/app/747200/Keplerth/
It's pricier than Necesse and doesn't yet have as good a settlement system, but it also got a nice feeling progression system and really good buildcrafting, although to be honest the material progression is just "Make copper, go mine iron, make iron, go mine silver", and exploration isn't really as good, but it's still worthwhile. Prioritize Necesse thoughever.

>>714716154Well at least you're self-aware, and that's a valuable quality, so I'll explain.
It was a joke. I said in my post that the poster you were replying to was referencing Deadwood, who is a miniboss rather than a game, and that miniboss belongs to a game called Ruza https://store.steampowered.com/app/2177620/Ruza/ which recently had a little... controversy involving the developer going thermonuclear on both his steam forums and this board, which is why I thought it would be an amusing thing to mention. Ruza does have a bit of schizocore in it, so that's an additional reason why I thought it fit to reference it. It's sort of one of those things for people "in the know", it's not funny unless the gears in your brain are turning in the exact same pattern as the ones in mine.

>>714669474 (OP)Start taking care of your backlog by picking a genre or a topic that interests you and go play something that features it. Then after that game find something else that shares a similarity that stimulates you. I went from dredge > Dave the diver > sea of thieves > sons of the forest > 7 days to die > jump ship demo > battlefront 2, as an example.
Then again, my tastes are vast while I have one friend who likes Warhammer sci-fi and another who likes realistic multiplayer shooters (ready or not, 6 days in fallujah, insurgency sandstorm, etc.)

Those are the ones I'd recommend you try. Right now the only real way to obtain them is to ask someone who has it for a catbox or any other kind of link. Personally, I think Dead Cells is a game that already far overstays its welcome past the second layer of NG+, and having fucking 8 of them is patently absurd at that point. It's neat, but it's repetetive and overpriced and I don't even consider the base game worth a buy.
