jeans were 8-12oz not the super thick slubmaxx stuff you are probably used to. and the upper blocks were cut looser until the 60s/70s.
also the type of jeans everyone (not just denim bros) wear these days are based on the 501 which has been more of a fashion jean than a work jean ever since the 1950's due to hollywood.
there were completely different brands and fits of jeans back then that were geared more towards working, like these 1950's hercules carpenters in the pic. they evolved into the modern day carpenter pant and dungaree. before mid century they used to be worn over-sized and often had an adjustable waist.
