This. It's insane just how big of a jump in quality he brought compared to the rest of the bosses. We've got:
>A moveset with real variety
>No bullshit camera (you can actually see all of his attacks)
>No bullshit hitboxes
>Ferocious speed, demanding quick reactions and innovation to your own playstyle to accommodate
>Short runback
He's basically everything that the gwyn fight from ds1 should've been, flaming sword and all. if the series had learned from the perfected dlc bosses like Fume Knight, Artorias and Malus, we wouldn't have gotten garbage like curserotted greatwood in the games to come.
