by the time the show came out people were sick and tired of the fat idiot husband trope
people still remember earlier seasons where he was just a lazy idiot who was good for nothing
later seasons trying to justify his laziness felt contrived
and them trying to retcon him to more of a stay at home dad role was just damage for the unlikable character they made
also doesn't help people like nicole and see her as the overworked wife who needs a break
