Armor, heavy weapons, shields, tanking and anything that isn't just spamming poke attacks with Stone Ring in Dark Souls 2 is neutered and worthless. Even Iron Flesh, that in any game makes the player an absolute poise tank that can mitigate any damage, is completely worthless in Dark Souls 2
