Regarding Cathay, it remains to be seen if Cathay's depiction in Total War will be accurate to The Old World but if it is, then I definitely think they fit the setting.
The Arcane Journal soured me on the army but I really enjoy their depiction in the game. An entire empire ruled by a distant ancient dragon and his retarded children who can't get along, with a population of brainwashed subjects being bossed around by arrogant nobles? Sounds good to me.
Here's hoping we get a better idea of what the Dragon Emperor's plan is, since it seems he wants to genocide the Slann and rid the world of all Old One projects, including humans.
