Another more accurate measurement method would probably be to measure the volume by filling a tube/barrel with water, putting you leg in to overflow the water into a container, then measuring the weight of the overflowed water. That would be relatively simple to set up, but would take a bit of prep and space.

A simpler way that I considered to at least make the measuring consistent would be to use some fixed surface(s) mark the spots on your leg. As in standing next to a desk and having the marker flat on the surface to then draw a line at the same height on both legs. Then you can measure along it with a cloth tape measure.
You could, if you were to measure it while standing, also attach the cloth tape measure to the same surface at the same height (to line up with the line) so that you can put your hamstring against it and then just have to focus on lining up the front of the. An issue I had with trying to get an accurate measurement on the ground was making sure it was lined up on the back. It wasn't too bad because I just have to put it between the two side markings, but it would be nice to have to be more convenient

I was wondering if there was maybe another way to measure, like an automated circumference measuring device I could make.
I think what I'll do is also measure the circumference around the thickest part of the thigh using the desk method as well as make some sort of 3D scanner (just because I want an excuse to make some robotics)
