Naa, America has invested a lot of money in Kazakhstan because it's Russia's gateway to Central Asia. We attempted a "color revolution" in Kazakhstan literally a month before the Ukraine War(Russia intervened). Kazakhstan does interoperability with NATO, but is not in NATO.

Part of Brzezinski's strategy is also to break Uzbekistan from Russia's influence. It's one of the reasons we were so eager to invade Afghanistan. It was our bridge to Central Asia. Without Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, there is no belt-and-road, and with the "Kazakh shield", Russia not only loses its influence in Central Asia, but we could have completely our encirclement/containment of both Russia and China.

>They were hoping the Chinese would end up siding with them as they grew in power.
They didn't expect the Chinese to "side" with us. They wanted to make China powerful to scare the shit out of the Russians to force Russia to seek security guarantees from the West. While also encircling Russia and keeping it poor to destabilize it.

To put it simply, we built China up to create a massive security dilemma for Russia which essentially forced it to "give up" in the Cold War, and in which we hoped would force them to seek security from the United States(and thus become a subordinated vassal like the rest of Europe). That was the strategy.

Basically, by encircling Russia, and threatening it in all directions, and with a rising China to the east, Russia would have no choice but to dismantle what's left of its empire in favor of security for its oligarchs.

>it's not in America's long term interest to weaken Russia
The American goal is to subordinate Russia, retard. It's not about using Russians to fight China. It's about controlling Russian resources. Without resources, China is irrelevant. If you knock out Russia and Iran, China is fucked. And without Russia and China, it is permanent American global hegemony.
