Hero MJ would've been great if OMD never happened or if the writers actually used her in an effective way as a civilian for a while in stories that had creativity. The Amazing Mary Jane series had her be OOC a bit but at least Leah did stuff with her acting and Spencer had her presence be used for a while.
But since we had her disappear or get involved in dumbass shit under the BND crew and Slott, get fixed somewhat by Spencer, and then suddenly become Jackpot after a bullshit timeskip, the change is abrupt and still OOC even when considering their version of MJ that was constantly afraid for Peter's safety.
