Hey OP, I'm gonna be honest, I don't have all the answers. I'm going through a crisis of faith myself actually. I'm no bible scholar or saint, sometimes I doubt if there even is a real God, but here is one thing I know for sure:
Faith in Jesus is what allowed many people to continue fighting. I was converted to Christianity not by the Bible, or by unfunny Tradcath or /pol memes, but by an ex drug addict in a wheelchair. She had been through so much pain - she suffered miscarriages, rapes, beatings, drug addictions, and in the end, she died from cancer. Yet, she still believed in God, even until the end.. That is what moved me to believe in Jesus. She endured so much, and still believed.
Whether there is or is not a god is irrelevant. I like to believe there is one, I think he has answered my prayers, but regardless, Christ existed and the fact that you are disgusted by these vile actions shows that the things He fought for - decency, kindness, compassion - are still alive.
