Thorfin became hyper pacifist because of his guilt. Basically he fought and killed fuckton of people for a sake to get opportunity to kill his father's killer in fair duel. But when someone else killed him thorfin suddenly lost the reason why he was killing and realized he killed fuckton of people for nothing.

Is his ideology right? Well almost right, refusing to fight at all is a massive flaw. Of course there is nothing wrong avoiding unnecessary violence but avoiding violence at all will turn you into a pushover that will be stuck in endless cycle of running away and finding new place because someone came after your place.

Sometimes violence is necessary and it is more than duty to not just fight but to crush someone trying to take anything from you.
If you can prove everyone around that you wont hesitate to use violence when needed you are more likely to find peace.
