It's clearly just an "Ask them a weird question, throw them off, and see how they react" thing. It's a stupid question but a legitimate aspect of evaluating an interviewee and he failed. When the interviewer says he can do better, he can easily stick to his guns and explain why he thinks water is better, maybe talk about why he doesn't like other things, or talk about trying to be healthy, etc. It reveals how somebody deals with conflict and the unexpected, and he dealt with it by just clamming up and staring like an autistic retard. I wouldn't hire him either.
