The interviewer was probably asking because he was going to get something to drink for them, and the anti-social interviewee doesn't understand how humans interact, and turned this a benign interaction into something awkward and creepy. They already like your resume enough to call you in which is like 40% of it. At any gigacorp ive ever interviewed at its felt like theyre doing a check to see how much of your soul is left. I just applied for a full time job as a dishwasher and had a 40 minute Zoom meeting in hopes of getting it within the next 30 days. They sent me 2 emails before the Zoom meeting saying I'd been disqualified because I already had an outstanding application with the company, but we went ahead with the zoom meeting anyway.
There was confusion about the time, but I seemed to do okay.
