Something I liked about RoTJ was just how much Palpatine's hubris fucked him.
It genuinely didn't occur to him that Luke would tell him to fuck off, and his rage at being defied meant he got completely blindsided by Vader's redemption, which also never occured to him.
It's so much more satisfying for the hero to win by defying fate rather than just bisecting the villain or overpowering him.
