Up until the second half, the races just don't have the same energy. And yes I consider the Halloween date and Teio trying to say thank you to her yuri lover and other frivolous episodes to be filler, while CG goes hard at the races from the start, and the cute moments never overstay their welcome.
And we're not even in G1 races yet, I hear it gets better.
