It's not about the object you goober. It's about the personal effort and time he put into restoring it.

Men have PRIDE in work they did themselves, even if it looks like shit. When you overwrite that work with someone else's work, you diminish the value they put into it. It doesnt matter if the other person did a better job and it looks better now. What matters is that you essentially said "that thing you are proud of looks like shit" and that hurts. You should understand that.
