also theres the xeno mural in Prometheus which straight up confirms that they already existed before David, and could be the Deacon we see at the end, aka the ‘engineer xeno’. as we know from Alien 3, they can adapt to host different life forms, so its possible that David did indeed create at least the first human version of the xeno, which is slightly different from the one we see in the original alien, which is slightly different to the ones in aliens… etc.
