find a rhythm for that one note that sounds good. then once you have a good rhythm that's just one note, start changing the notes.
songs are basically one big chord. yeah, most songs you listen to will use multiple chords, but they are chords in relation to the key that the song is in.
melodies are just parts of a chord, when a melody is played it will give the impression of a chord.
this isn't music, but look at the impressionist paintings. I won't delve further into this, but if you can make sense of what I'm saying with the above words and this picture, you should have no problem writing new music.
