Doing that almost always results in a background outline around the character. Even when you wand it again and expand the range by 1px, it results in noticeably aliased lines of uneven thickness like pic related.

AI background removers either suck balls, are paywalled, or are capped at 500x500px images and will still miss shit that requires editing the image anyway.
