This but unironically. To read Homer you learn ancient Greek, to read commentarii de bello gallico you learn Latin. There is a reason they still teach those language at school and if you actually want to understand ancient Greek/Culture you have to learn their respective languages. This is common sense meanwhile you pretend like this is some weird outlandish idea. The same applies for Japanese culture, if you want to get into their culture, learn their language.
