In the comprehensive rules this is outlined under rule 305.2 and 305.2a, and continuous effects mentioned in 305.2a are explained in section 611. Most notably 611.2 and 611.2a which explain that continuous effects from spells and abilities are different than those from static abilities (611.3).
Don't worry! Magic is hard! In time you too can create FIRE designs worthy of MH4 if you put in the work towards designing utter garbage.
