>TQ:Which is more valuable to the Magic brand: the immediate revenue from reprinting high value cards, or the long-term collector confidence built on the promise not to reprint them?
>>96238419 (OP)>TQThe immediate revenue from printing FIRE cards that rotate multiple formats, obviously. Because it also creates long-term confidence that each new set will be crazier than the last!
>>96238419 (OP)>Which is more valuable to the Magic brand: the immediate revenue from reprinting high value cards, or the long-term collector confidence built on the promise not to reprint them?Even IF they decided to put the power nine into standard tomorrow, all the old printing would still be worth a pile of money.
Not as much, but still a lot, it wouldn't break people wallets as much as they would like to believe.
Jeweled lotus lost 50% of its value, and yeah, that's a lot, but its still far from worthless. You're a retard if you were keeping them in a vault like gold bars and deserved it, same with fucking anything on the RL
>>96238436Uhh WotC will not like this
>>96238419 (OP)>TQReprinting and it's not even close. Shame this game is absolute fucking shit at reprints. Which may explain some of their choices lately while chasing more profits. Refusing to reprint certain cards does nothing positive for the game.
>>96238419 (OP)>Which is more valuable to the Magic brand: the immediate revenue from reprinting high value cards, or the long-term collector confidence built on the promise not to reprint them?Has any other game had this problem before? It's hard for me to even assess what the exact ramifications would be for sales if WotC dissolved the Reserved List.
Does "enters tapped and attacking" get around this?
>>96238558Whining and butt hurt, maybe some suicides.
>>96238473Goddammit lmao will there ever come a day where I won't have a "wow I've never seen THIS fucking card!" reaction? That's fucking neato
>>96238558No other game has been stupid enough to make never reprinting a specific set of cards a marketing move. Realistically, I really doubt it would do anything if they did dissolve it. No one who's really part of Wizard's current biggest market probably even owns a single thing from that list or would know much about it.
>>96238561No. No matter how creatures enter the battlefield, they are "entering" and will be hit by that
>>96238561that art speaks to me
>>96238593Kev Walker is based. It kind of looks like early 90s CGI painted over.
OG Omnath was surprisingly fun. Ive never felt more dangerous throwing down mana doublers
>>96238600yeah, reminds me of those prerendered backgrounds in 90s games
but I also like the general dark atmosphere. combined with the old frame, it's just so perfect. I love old cards so much.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
serious question, do cedh games only end by combo? or is the fact that everyone is paying 5 life for alternate cost cards and 20 for their shocklands mean that life totals are actually a lot lower
>>96238675it's 100% win by some sort of combo
low power decks like to hide a combo in the 99. cEDH decks are about cramming as mana combo pieces you can into your deck and finding them all faster than anyone else, while also holding on to the best interaction you can find.
cEDH games also aren't over fast because of that fact. I've seen games passing the 3 hour mark.
>>96238419 (OP)Immediate revenue. The investard part of magic has ensured the game has no actual future because younger players just aren't coming into it in any appreciable numbers due to how ridiculously expensive the game is because nerds have turned it into a stock market.
>>96238702>younger players just aren't coming into it in any appreciable numbers due to how ridiculously expensive the game is because nerds have turned it into a stock market.i don't think this is really true beyond the whale-chasing sets. Tarkir and EoE both have totally reasonable pre-cons available, and new players weren't going for RL stuff anyway.

>>96238675Yuriko has a burn finisher if she has enough creatures on the board.
>>96238647Old cards and frames were peak magic aesthetic for sure during that era.
>>96238686Is a cEDH deck designed to go up against three others, or is it 1v1? Is there a 1v1 EDH format if not? I remember back in the day Vendilion Clique being the hot shit in that when it was EDH, not commander.
General question for everyone: would you consider Disciple of Caelus Nin mass land denial? Legal to put in a bracket 3 deck?
My opinion is that in general everyone has the choice of phasing out their lands or keeping them, so it's not really mld. But I just think the concept of mld is laughable anyway with UGx ramp dominance having no counterplay. Haven't actually tried it in a deck tho.
>>96238675can't etali kill by hitting someone (counts as infect kill) in certain circumstances?
>>96238731cEDH is also 4 player
for 1v1, there is duel commander with separate rules and banlist
>>96238749>for 1v1, there is duel commander with separate rules and banlistWhoa. No shit?
>>96238735I would consider it a bracket 1 card it's so ass dude.
>>96238735Does it deny you lands on a mass scale?
>>96238776Really? Seems good in my Marchesa control list to counterplay against ramping
>>96238793I've never seen this card not just hand the next player in turn order the game.
>>96238789No, you can choose to keep 5 lands. Thats enough
>>96238794Then someone plays instant speed removal on it during the end step of the player to their right, suddenly they're the only person with permanents phased in, effectively giving them a wholly uncontested turn, and you look like a retard.
>>96238800And I just Not Dead After All it or recur it with Alesha or Terra. I'm in Mardu, I'm not afraid of interaction
>Is that an... arcane signet?
>Are you fucking stupid? Why are you trying to ramp outside of green, the color that's the best at ramping uncontrollably because I'm not allowed to play MLD?
>Don't you know that Arcane Signet is worse than Chromatic Orrery in every way? If you drew that thing late it would be totally useless compared to an 8-mana bomb!
>Don't you know that ramping is inefficient? The only thing your deck needs to do is play the commander once, even though it also shouldn't depend on the commander at all because it dies to removal.
>Also I'd like to again remind you again that green is OP because there's literally no way to stop it from ramping and winning every game without MLD legal
I tried out ragost and he feels sooooo slow, even with a ton a treasure. Everything feels so feeble.
How did you guys build him?
>>96238558I think I heard theyโre liable to get sued because they put into writing they will never reprint anything on the reserve list again, but theyโve removed and reprinted cards from the RL already, so who knows.
>>96238749>>96238766I just found out Rofellos and Primeval Titan aren't banned in 1v1. This is... awesome!
>>96238812So you're going to phase out your own board to keep lands so you can hold up mana to protect your 3/4?
For the sake of argument I'll avoid poking at flaws specific to Not Dead After All and assume you're using stronger spot protection like Loran's Escape or Restoration Magic (since your choice was ironically very poor given the #1 removal piece in the format being an exile effect).
If you continuously try to play catch-up on someone who's getting multiple uncontested turns with a full mana reserve, you're going to fall behind on tempo and lose the game regardless. Every land you keep to protect Disciple of Caelus Nin is a permanent you're not able to gain tempo with. It's not like you can see someone choosing to keep lands and respond by keeping your own lands either. You have to choose first and telegraph what you have.
What is the best tcgplayer seller for cheap bulk that will arrive together?
>>96238857depends. what's your address?
>>96238820>claims to be a "competitive player">says the worst color in the game is overpowered
>>96238839They should just make functional 1:1 reprints and just let the investards stew in their ponzi scheme.

>>96238882>claims to be a "competitive player">refuses to play sol ring cuz muh noncompetitive reasonsmuch better line of attack
>>962388691600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC
>>96238852Once again, I like this in Mardu Control. I'm not usually going to have a huge board to worry about Disciple's effect hitting me too hard. And importantly, it's in my deck; I know it's coming and my opponents do not. I'm not saying the card is amazing, but I do think the idea of worrying about removal in bracket 3, where most players are playing solitaire trying to ramp to their combo finisher or big ass creature, is overblown. If they remove it, I'll try to protect it, if they get rid of it, big deal, I'll play another must answer creature or wipe the board. The idea of pissing off some Aesi or Tatyova land spam netdecker gets me hard, that's the real reason I wanna play it lol. I just want more answers to them
>>96238918Universe Within/Beyond was the perfect opportunity to reprint reserve list as "new" cards. Something like a Mass Effect SL with the Sliver Queen reimagined as the Rachni Queen. Or the Moxen as a play on the Infinity Stones.
>>96238935>guys vance is posting on /edhg/
>>96238938I mean that's fair enough. Players are absolute shit at the game and you can get away with fucking murder in EDH. I just try to build decks through a lens of not trying to exploit bad players because then the result quickly becomes "turbo to wincon knowing they're not running interaction".
That's just my perspective though. I see it as a b1 card because it blows up in your own face so easily, but Timmies will call basically anything you blow them out with as "not in the spirit of bracket (X)".
>>96238953Vance needs a fucking corner rounder for his proxies, holy shit.

Is she the best artifact good stuff commander nowadays? I was on sharuum for a long time when I got into the format a decade or so ago but haven't played her much lately.
>>96238839Did they put it into writing? I thought they only made a promise they wouldnโt abolish the RL but never saw any docs with their company headโs signature(s) on it. In the comprehensive rules this is outlined under rule 305.2 and 305.2a, and continuous effects mentioned in 305.2a are explained in section 611. Most notably 611.2 and 611.2a which explain that continuous effects from spells and abilities are different than those from static abilities (611.3).

ENOUGH POINTLESS BICKERING
I shall post MY deck in anon's stead, to prove my immense brilliance capable of completing the Herculean task of creating a legal deck for the "Commander" format (formerly known as EDH, in honor of the gay dragons who founded it).
https://archidekt.com/decks/7966458/gaylazeth_prismari
This is my Izzet storm deck. The goal of the deck is to waste as much time as possible by taking as many game actions in one turn that ultimately do not win. I restricted myself to only using creatures that have the type "Dragon" because I don't want to sully a dragon deck with non-dragons.
I have additionally restricted myself from using Unwinding Clock, because it is too much of a red flag to the table that they should scoop and go next. I can not let any victims escape my 15-minute turn early, as I try to draw a 9-mana sorcery that requires 3 garnets in the library.

Hello, /EDH/ I am trying to decide on a commander to play.
I have been in and out of magic for quite a while and basically starting from scratch. There are a few commanders I want to build, but I don't know which one and have pro's and cons for each. I tend to enjoy slower/control style decks with interaction, so if you have any EDH recommendations please recommend them. My color priority goes from U>B>W>G>R and I prefer not to proxy.
Teysa - Pros: I really like Orzhov, my favorite guild, drain and gain is fun.
Cons: I worry that this commander is too popular for tables and people will not want to play against another Teysa.
Rydia: Pros: My favorite FF character, a fun competent fast list that can combo off with landfall triggers, cycling through my deck quickly as well as having land matters strategy.
Cons: Gruul, specifically Red/Green are my least favorite colors, and I feel like the deck will be far to linear to get to specific combos, making games feel very samey, but the process of getting there different each time. Also don't want to spend $200 on fetch lands.
Terra
Pros: Blue is my favorite single color, and a very control heavy based deck, as well as featuring my favorite VG artist Amano.
Cons: I don't like artifacts as much and people don't like winter orb.
Liesa and D&V: Both options for a control style Angel deck, with one taking my opponents triggers for unique games, and Liesa for anti infinite hate and general drain/life gain synergy.
Cons: I feel of all the commanders listed, these are on the weaker side, with D&V being reliant on my opponents board state and probably will be hated off the board, while Liesa feeling the slowest at 5 cost.
With all being said, I believe I am leaning towards Liesa, she seems to be the most interesting while not being too obnoxious to play against. Teysa the second. Rydia third, only due to fetches and building up a collection in colors I don't want to play as much, but the deck also seems fun.
If wotc were to make new versions of the Ivasion/Planar Chaos legendary dragons, what would their stats, power and keywords be in order to be relevant?

>Terra/UrzaStay away, unless you want to break into high power. The deck looks like it'd be fairly simple and fair (oh, I turn my artifacts into mana rocks, and get a beefy boi to protect me) but in reality you're committing tax evasion and taking a 20 minute turn with infinite mana and infinite triggers to just play your entire deck one randomly shuffled card at a time. Don't get me wrong, this is my own cEDH choice, but you do NOT play Urza casually.
>TeysaShe's really not all that popular, at least from what I've seen. She's one of the few Aristocrat strategies that really works, due to her being a doubler in the CZ that allows you to be aggressive with your fodder before it gets sac'd. She's super fun, though, and you should 100% build her just to have for later on. Can become a powerhouse if you splurge for tutors and doublers.
>LiesaThis is my go-to Orzhov commander. You run her, all the white stax effects you can, and the black Edict effects. Lifegain and Token subtheme, running both the Lin+Dran and Teysa you have in her 99 (along with her other printing) and you jus become a menace taxing the table, killing their field, and denying their abilities. Dont fall into the trap of playing her Angel Tribal, she brings nothing to the tribe. She's a Death and Taxes commander. And if her mana cost is your big issue, swap her out for Kambal (who will 100% be in the 99 anyway). Sure, she's a 5 cost, but she will ONLY ever be a 5 cost.
>>96239642>playing Jhoira Cheerios at a high power table>get to sneak in a win attempt under their noses after the counter war stopped the KrarkaShima player>Have to track tokens from 2 different creature creators, mana rocks, floated mana from rocks, mana from Birgi, treasure from Storm Kiln, storm count, and which draw/draw+discard effect I'm using when, all with Thassa's Oracle on the stack under it allThe Kinnan player got salty, and made me play it out. Izzet is not for the simple, or the weak of heart. Once you assemble your rube goldberg machine of death, you commit or you fucking die
kinan? more like GAYnan damn gottem.
>>96239709No, I know Liesa only ever costs 5, it just seems a little late to come onto the table. EDH being the format I have interacted by far the least with, being 5 cost seems like such a downside. As for Teysa, I just assumed she was more popular then she actually was just due to the fact that there are so many lists for her on EDH rec. I dont mind buying tutors/staples, especially due to the fact that they will be in Orzhov. I know Urza is tax evasion, which is sorta the sole reason I want to play him. Rydia is more of a passion project, I just dont want to splurge for red/green fetches.
>>96239761don't let anyone ever try to tell you a 5 mana commander is too slow. Especially when the deck they're helming is designed entirely around slowing the game down anyway. A single mana rock brings her down T4, and a Sol Ring brings her down T3. She gets automatic value, because anyone trying to remove her has to eat the 2HP hit first, and that's on top of any other stax effects you have on board.
Trust me, she's more than fine in the CZ. And, like I said, if her mana cost really irks you that much, Kambal is a side-grade that only hits noncreatures your opponents cast, while also healing you.
I have a question for aggro players
I'm brewing my first aggro deck after mostly playing control oriented strategies. Is there a certain threshold for damage benchmarks per turn you want to see in that kind of deck?
>>96239787depends on what you're looking for in your aggro. Are we talking go-wide, constant pressure from damage? or are you looking for ramping "answer me or die" stuff? Are you leaning into voltron and looking to just tell your biggest threat to get the fuck out of your game, or do you want to actually sit and play with others?
>>96239806Selesnya go wide. I suppose normally I would want to distribute the tokens easily so as to not be a dick, but any t1 solring player is gonna get it.
>>96239787When you play aggro, you have to be mean. Don't spread out damage, kill a fucker. Remove them from the game. You are the board's cleaner, your job is to figure out which combo deck would win fastest if you leave them alone, and not leave them alone. There isn't really a "benchmark" for damage, except maybe that a voltron deck should be killing one person every turn starting roughly two turns before your bracket is "supposed to" win.
Also, despite being aggro, fogs are your greatest ally, it is what will allow you to win against other aggro decks.
>>96239831In that case, I'd be looking at a cascading damage in roughly steps of 3. First 2 hits should definitely take a player down by at least a fourth of their total life, and by the time you swing out for the 4th hit, they will preferably either be dead, or have taken so much damage that they're doing whatever you say under threat of death.
Don't spread the damage around until you have AT LEAST enough on board to kill one player through blocks.
im really not sure how you'll achieve this in GW with Finneas, unless you're going Hare Apparent memes, but that's roughly what you'd be wanting.
>>96239858>>96239862My vision is to have a deck that is super low to the ground, and gets the commander's draw ability online t3. The ideal t1-3 for me looks like this
>Play a 1 cmc token/rabbit>Play finneas>Put down either a hyper efficient 3cmc generator like adeline or hop to it, or a combination of 2 and 1 drops that will get the commander online>T4 I'll have 15 or so damage on board between the previous 10 and new counters>T5 should have around 30 with new bodies and new counters>While doing the above, protect the commander as a draw engine and anthem with cheeky free combat tricks

>>96241113>yknow except for the joke formatImproperly played in commander*. Ramping being a thing in EDH is a leftover mindset from when a decks average cmc was well over 3 usually hovering over 4 even. You can now develop a strong board with 1 2 and 3 drops and threaten your opponents who just finished ramping.
I've built Kumena twice. Once as a purely fun merfolk tribal which sucked ass, and once as a combo deck which won games but wasn't fun at all. Is there a middle ground? Merfolk that don't lose against precons?
>>96241151you want a card like this to consistently enable a win. more often than not it's cast because the deck burnt out and needs more fuel. if your graveyard is dry it doesn't function. best case your hand is refilled with cards which haven't done much for you so far that probably wont be cast until next turn.
in a colour identity that cares about the grave you likely have better options. in mono green there are more consistent ways to refuel, recur or reach critical mass that are either more flexible or lower cost.
if it's the recursion you care about then there are not only lower cmc, but also instant speed cards that could double as interaction to protect your grave or hinder an opponents deck.
if you want the hand size increase just play a reliquary tower, in green you can tutor it no problem. alternatively, have enough mana to play the cards in your hand.
>>96241364How does Glissa play as a commander? Seems kinda unique for monogreen, but would probably be able to do the same thing better with Ygra.

Aside from the irrelevance of cedh my initial statement has NEVER been refuted. The wisdom of ramp in EDH is a product of a mindset that develop 15-20 years ago when a decks average cmc was double what it is today. It is from a time where impactful strong 1/2/3 drops were far and few between. Neither of these are true anymore. Youre welcome to ramp and I will develop a board that threatens victory

>>96242081It's Legolas in the center there. That's why there's five billion fight spells. It's got a dearth of card draw, however, and bricks without one of its inconsistent card advantage engines.
I'm going to be cutting a fair number of them for an enchantress shell. There's a lot of 1-to-3-mana auras that self-recur. So you can slap things like Fortitude or Rancor on an opponent's creature, kill another creature, then kill the enchanted creature later to recoup the aura and get more triggers.
>>96242083I'm a condofag and don't have a kitchen table. My work desk is over-occupied. Floor is best.
>>96242028Whats wrong with it? Was it multiple games or just one? Hard to judge it based on a few games. Did you have any fun? Does it have potential to be fun?
>>96242104Why don't you post it on moxfield or archidect?
>>96242107When you get some card advantage into rotation it's fun if linear. Without a big refiller like Rishkar's or your un-tutorable best card in the deck Season of Growth, you're gonna burn out on cards really fast.
It's the rudiments of a deck I slapped together on a whim. The original deck was creatureless Nadu fights, but that's never happening again.
I got about three games in, which might not sound like much but the cracks are super obvious. I knew it'd be the case going in though. The one game where it felt good to play I had a sylvan library turn two, which is about as helpful for factoring deck consistency as saying you performed well with a Sol Ring opener. It also helped that there was an active archenemy for me to tunnel. Unfortunately a player with poor assessment killed my Legolas and then the archenemy deleted us in short order.
The other two games the deck just burnt out on cards. Swapping over to an enchantress shell shores up this gameplan, however. And makes the deck a bit more novel than cramming 18 fight spells in.
>>96242120Laziness. I like taking a photo of the decks I build month before they get disassembled in a month or so. Just in case I want to rebuild them later.
>>96242160>best card in the deck Season of Growth, you're gonna burn out on cards really fast.Yep I have two commanders with that as the centerpiece. It's either king of the fucking table with it or some bracket 1 trash without it. Fuckin sucks
So this is a weird question maybe and I think I'm right and am just overthinking things, but I want to make sure while I'm debating on inclusions.
If I'm running a card that lets me, say, play a Human from deck, this Gideon technically falls under that as long as it's my turn, right?
>>96242289No. The only planeswalker that has a creature type outside the field is the very hungry caterpillar. And that one specifically has rules text that makes it so.
And no, the flipwalkers that start as creatures don't count. They're either creatures with creature types, or planeswalkers without.
>>96240739It took you 6 hours to read a three sentences in the CR explaining triggered abilities that cause continuous effects being different from static abilities causing them, and your conclusion was that there was no difference?

>>96242543There's some exceptions like Blightsteel because it's a replacement effect, but in this particular instance it only protects itself.
is mill the most hated archetype? i feel like even stax gets people less pissy
>>96242595I'd list all the following in the exact same spot of hatred
Stax
Chaos
Group Hug
Discard
Mill
>>96242595Imagine discard but instead of making you discard 1 card everything makes you discard 10.
This is how people see mill (they are bad at the game)
>someone brings his brother
>dont worry its a causal deck
>he whaled every single legendary alt art from FF, including kendrith, juda muldotra and the rest
>whines everyone gangs on him
Universe beyond was a mistake
>>96242595only bad players hate mill, if you really depended on that card you lost then you are shit at deck building
>>96242625The UB aspect seems completely irrelevant to your story.
>>96242595from most to least i would say
theft >>>>> stax > mill > discard > infect > control
im probably forgetting some other archetypes that cause seethe as well
>>96242625>Targeted someone because they used alt artAnon the artwork doesn't change what the card does. Sounds like your table has bad threat assessment.
>>96242625>we bullied a whale not because he ran cedh, but because he was richer than usoof
>>96242595Discard is infinitely worse. You should be planning ahead for your next turn rather than deciding everything once the turn is passed to you. If someone rips cards out of your hand then your plan needs to change. You don't plan around your top 10 cards unless you're playing top deck manipulation. So, discard is always far worse and more impactful.
>>96242595I don't mind mill the only thing that gets me mad is discard or force sacrifice decks. Mill you can just slot in like two cards that shuffle graveyard into library and call it good. Discard heavy decks or guys with a lot of annihilator effects you have to beat them to death with a baseball bat for running something so gay and lame
>>96242595I feel mill is hated because in addition to being completely ineffectual, it uniquely boosts just one player at the table(the GY player)
Grouphug may be memeing, but atleast everyone benefits.
>>96242617Group hug at least gives you shit and if you're confident your deck has better value you make out like a bandit. I run howling mine in my deck and I don't care about giving other people cards, I gotta play my hand ASAP and win the value game
>>96242625That deck sounds weak as fuck, are you just playing precons?
>>96242625sounds like kind of a shit deck, not even good stuff pile tbdesuwithyou
>>96242675People cry about group hug because they feel like whoever won only won due to the group hug player. They treat the group hug player as a king maker ruining their games. So, the group hug player is blamed by the other two players.
I play Zedruu group hug because I can give Howling Mine to my opponent then draw twice as much to find my gay marriage combo.

>>96242755Most don't. I've seen retards here call coin and dice decks "chaos."

chaos is like group hug in that 90% of the people playing it didnt even have a wincon and were just trying to be ebic memelords spamming shit like warp world that made the game take forever without advancing the state at all and thats why it was hated out
>>96242595Combo is the most hated universally. Timmy usually hates mill if he hasn't played a lot of combofags. Timmy will revile discard if he ever runs into a dedicated Discard deck.
Tergrid was my first powerful deck I made and after a few times my friends asked me not to play it anymore. When the new Tinybones dropped I put the feelers out to see if they'd mind that instead of Tergrid (since my deck had just been sitting there for years) and they polite told me in no uncertain terms they'd bust my bussy if I brought a discard deck back.

>>96242973>>96242985Huh that actually could work in a really funny way as a combo until you get absolutely blown the fuck out by artifact hate
>>96242973>I have a hand?
>>96242789>>96242987That's because discard ends up banned when it's good because it's so cancerous. There's a few early cards aimed at countering discard but they were comically weak and don't work against any Duress effect.
It's like manaless dredge which had the worst play pattern imaginable. You open LotV and you win, or you don't and you lose. That's the whole game.
There's some indirect discard protection like Leyline of Sanctity, but those don't work against the type of discard used in EDH.
Discard is genuinely a design mistake and it's honestly a mystery why card games keep trying to replicate it when it has never created a healthy play environment even a single time. Hand disruption cards have been routinely banned or massively errata'd in basically every game that tried them and didn't die entirely from it.
