Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as a trio hardly ever did anything.

Most of their encounters are either them running to each other by chance, Knuckles acting as an antagonistic force, or them BARELY doing things together. Heroes and Riders are the outliers. Every other time they're with Shadow and Rouge (SA2, 06) or with Amy (Shuffle, Advance, Zero Gravity, Lost World, Superstars), so it doesn't count as them doing stuff as a trio.
