I started Summon Night X: Tears Crown today.
In a word, it's strange.
It takes place in a world completely separate from Lindbaum which is a first for anything titled Summon Night. Although It still has summoning mechanics, the creatures are summoned from realms not present in the main series. There are only 3 realms - a Fey realm, a Majin realm, and a Genju realm.
The overall production value is very nice. Large portraits during dialogue, main characters are voiced, cool and smooth animations, noticeable music, nice character designs, and the plot gets kicked off in an interesting way.
You're a prince (or princess depending on if you choose the girl?) of a country that has been at war with another for centuries until both rulers agree to peace under the stipulation that each king gives their son as hostage to the other for 10 years. The 10 years pass and your father ends up betraying the other ruler by sending his brainwashed son as assassin to murder his father.
Gameplay starts off simple until new mechanics are added early on. It plays like a typical JRPG most similar to Final Fantasy. Difference here is you have air units and air enemies in their own area, you can attack field objects with varying effects, and of course the Summons.
It's cool. I'm excited to keep playing. Only thing I don't like is that there aren't any chapter title cards!
Night conversations are of course present still. Also, Shin'ichirou's style comes into its own and resembles Re:Zero a lot more.
Real pic because
>emulating DS
