I'm of the belief that anyone that volunteers to moderate for free or signs up for a moderating job willingly will be power hungry psychos and should not be given power.
Moderation is fine when the mods are on the payroll and it's their job and they wouldn't do it otherwise. Ideally they need to hate their job as much as possible but continue to do it because they get money. They are the least likely to be power tripping control freaks.
