I think you're misunderstanding the whole point of stop killing games. Going with your analogy, if the company providing the ride goes out of business or they no longer want to provide it, they would need an EOL plan, either sell the ride to another company that keeps it going or it would get nationalized by the government.
The whole point is to preserve the ride, how that exactly happens doesn't matter as long as the ride never ends.
