Haru Urara's campaign is a touching one. She comes off as a one-note happy-go-lucky simpleton who doesn't care about winning or losing, but gradually we see that she really is just as human as any of us.
It cumulates in a poignant moment when she finally reaches her goal of participating in the Arima Kinen, but as the other racers on the track leave her behind, the always-joyful girl is struck by deep feelings of sadness and yearning. Some deep part of her has finally understood that everything she sees in front of her, that everyone else has, will forever be out of her reach. Haru breaks down in tears, fundamentally just too intellectually limited to comprehend the complex emotions swirling in her heart.
It made me consider the question - what would it be like to rape Haru Urara?
Does she know what rape is? Probably. Whispered warnings from the other Umas, cautioning girls to be wary of those who would take advantage. She probably knows, but her stunted mind doesn't truly understand. Not yet.
She might hesitate, something deep in her subconscious trying to scream up at her, but unable to pierce the fog of her dim mind. Another forceful word from you, and the moment passes. She knows that there are a lot of things in this world that she doesn't get - but that's okay, because this world is also filled with great people who will always help!
>I-I'm scared, trainer-san
>Trainer-san is my friend... he can't be hurting me...
>I-it feels good... so why am I crying?
For a normal human, the dichotomy of feelings is resolvable, but for someone as retarded as Haru Urara? Might as well be a brick wall. The event would be seared into her memory in the way that only trauma can be. Probably the only thing she *can* remember.
She'd wonder why racing isn't so fun, the colors aren't so bright anymore. And someday, in the end, maybe she would finally understand. But it wouldn't matter. Everyone only loved her for her joy. Without that? Just another broken one for the pile.
