I wish there was a more kino trope in all of fiction, but the issue is that shit like this immediately stops working the moment sprites/portraits get too much detail on them. No one with a brain sees this and goes "yes, that is absolutely not a female". It absolutely needs to be either text-only or low-detail as possible without too many things like portraits or other shit.
Kind of like how if you read the original Kino no Tabi in Japanese without ever seeing the cover or any illustrations, you'd never know she was a girl until it was explicitly revealed.
