honestly the first X game is still my favourite, the ps1 games had weird perspectives where the surface of the ground was kind of skewed to give depth instead of the clean cross-section of the snes games which made the elvel design harder to read. Also the assets were a mix of flattened renders and actual sprite work
it's funny though, I think these two portraits are the best looking art in the series and this style like never appears again
