i find goldmask interesting because he's obsessed with the golden order becoming an objective part of reality but he also has little or no interest in it and its ways and has been repeatedly chased out of it as a heretic, stuff like corhyn somehow not identifying goldmask as a notorious heretic until watching his finger waggle a certain way (or the repeated implication and sometimes direct statement that all finger stuff is crankery with the two fingers losing contact with the greater will almost instantly) (corhyn himself is a crank with the mule yoke around his neck to warn passersby he's a crank which is even funnier)
and there's more than a bit of vanity to his character with fashioning a halo mask for himself at the same time as wearing rags because he believes finery is beneath him. i wondered a bunch if goldmask was mute for the entire duration of the game because he had a stitched shut mouth or something, or even if speaking out loud would give away the plot on his end
