not sure what media you're watching/reading but about 60% of the country is unhappy with him. politicians are happy and support him because they know if they don't he'll ruin them. everyone surrounding him is a yes man similar to how putin insulates himself. he has a base of people that will support him no matter what and they are loud but not large.

the worst case scenario is playing out. he is hindering growth through uncertainty. he is hurting the youth by renegging on college debt relief, increasing prices on everything through tariffs, destroying institutions of science and medicine, falling back on old less efficient technology for immediate gain rather than research and development for future industries.
he's basically pumping the US for as much money as he can make from it now but not putting any points into future growth. China will probably surpass us in terms of innovation and such.
a simple comparison, look at how russia and the US were both competing and yet today there are no russian computers in existence. same thing will happen the america now. in 50 years we'll look back and say hey how come this futuristic industry is completely dominated by China when the US was a big power back then too?
