FF16 does have status effects and they are actually more powerful in this game than across the board in the entire series (not a high praise because they are DOGSHIT in FF most of the time)
Will O the Wisps is a 4 hit damage negation shield, Ramuh skills have "downer" state that extends the periods enemies lie on the ground after being flipped or launched and his eikon skill acts like a dot damage source + time slow alongside a few other abilities like Bahamut's homing orb ability, Shiva has possibly the most bullshit crowd control effect in the entire series with her freeze, enemies have several buffs (the notably bullshit one is berserk, which negates stagger state until the boss finishes his combo). The game also has numerous sources of projectile negation and ranged/melee parry that are way stronger than your typical Reflect/counter in turn based FFs.
RPG fluff is not what FF16 needs, at least not in the way brain damaged fanboys want it. It needs to get rid of the cooldowns and replace it with a Wo Long esque resource management system for eikon powers (a simple ass mana that functions like Wo Long's spirit), give more eikon skill slots including a dedicated ult slot and make all accessories as fun as the DLC one so the systems would help the player expression instead of getting in its way. It's a fantastic foundation for future action titles, but they need to improve it.
