I genuinely think from the small bits we have on dess, she might be lost in a dark world as a spirit, or potentially inside kris as part of their soul.
I think the knight is her conceptually or just a part of her, maybe just what carol or someone wanted from her born from a dark world in the bunker. The bunker is clearly where dess might have "died" and probably joined with kris in the same way asriel joined with chara just in reverse. Timeline is like this.
>Dess dares asriel to go into the bunker with her, goat agrees and they have an adventure
>Dess and the group now go in again, asriel gets cold feet
>kris and dess go in, find a titan or maybe even gaster.
>Dess fights "Something"
>ends up summoning our soul later and a combination with dess's soul allows for better light
>Knight is summoned and starts doing shit.
>game story happens
This all came to me as a schizo fantasy after listening to music from the game and other shit on my playlist, most of it probably isn't true but the dess is still alive in the dark world and not the knight shit might be.
