It's like a hand sickle. Regardless of the size it's going to cut well due to the inwards curve meaning that it easily "snags" and draws more material into itself. If you want one for "fighting" or self-defense you should probably get some kind of hawkbill or linoleum like that other guy said but it heavily depends on carry/defense laws where you live. If the curve isn't so exaggerated they still stab pretty well. It's quite a lot easier to KILL someone using most other knives where you can just pull the sewing machine routine especially if you have no fighting or martial arts experience. However, you have some more options for less-lethal options with karambit-style blades and they're a bit harder to disarm if used properly. As for actual models I've only used the FX-599 and the Cold Steel Tiger Claw. Both use wave-style openings and deploy well. Make sure you get a metal/rubber practice version and actually do some drills and practice draws. Don't be silly and think that you only have to use them in a reverse grip, either.
