Sure they delete some gay kiss here and there for the muslims or chinese but everyone back in the day watched Commando, Alien, Predator and Star Trek because it was a good show, yes I was very well aware that it was in America, that American traditions, cars, life was different but I didn't need localizing.
The same goes in reverse you don't need to make Rice balls into Jelly donuts kids can fucking handle the concept of rice balls.
If anything showing new and interesting stuff in media leads to demands for it. Look at how Korean TV shows go hand in hand with Korean Music and then Korean products, people are going online buying Korean makeup, drinking Makgeolli, Soju and Cheongju. You can buy Korean Beer Brands in shops that sell it.
