The worst part about Japan winning the culture war is that they can pump out the most 3/10, greasy-high-schooler story you've ever seen in your life and retards online will talk about it for years and years. Overlord fucking sucks - it's always fucking sucked, whether it's the terrible Nipponese brand of comedy, the meandering plot (most Japs can't pace for shit, either), the complete lack of emotional stakes or the tonal whiplash. It's so bad, in fact, that most of this thread is about other people bringing up the fact that Overlord sucks. If the first book of Overlord had been written in America, it would have been chucked in the fucking garbage bin by every publisher that had to suffer through it, but since it was made in Japan it gets a free Madhouse adaptation and you get to hear about it forever.

This goes for lots of Japanese garbage. Only an industry as desperate to justify its existence as the Japanese animation industry would ever adapt fucking Shield Hero, but they are, so they did. You could jerk off onto a blank manuscript in Japan and get published for it. Talk about having it made.
